In this season of #TheShot, we look at inclusion and accessibility in payments. As payments become more digital, faster and more complex, more people risk being left out than the industry tends to assume: older people, people facing financial difficulties, people with disabilities, and people who prefer not to pay digitally for privacy or security reasons.
Our guest is Andréa Toucinho, Director of Studies, Prospective and Training at Partelya Consulting, back after Season 5 on BNPL. She explains what the EU accessibility directive changes for financial services, how EU countries approach inclusion in different ways, and what a truly inclusive payments market needs.
For PSPs, PayFacs, ISOs and ISVs, accessibility is becoming a requirement rather than a design option. The checkout pages, payment links and terminals they run for their merchants are where inclusion is won or lost, and building it in from the start costs less than retrofitting it later. Supporting a broad mix of payment methods is part of letting their merchants serve every customer.
Discretion isn’t a feature we sell. It’s how the product is built.
